Description
Poland's crushing victory over the Teutonic Order at Tannenberg in 1410 ushered in an era of political, military and economic decline for the Order. The state was led by a small clique of German knights, many of whom had been killed at Tannenberg, and in subsequent years the tensions between the Order's ruling élite and its Prussian and Baltic German nobility continued to rise as the balance of power shifted from the Order's original powerbase around Marienburg in the south, to the Livonian branch's more recent conquests around Riga in the north. The situation reached boiling point in the 1450s when the local Prussian nobility, who had formed a Confederation to promote their own regional interests a few years prior, swore allegiance to Casimir IV of Poland and called on him to protect them from the Order's expected retaliation. With the Order refusing to negotiate Prussia's status, and despite the arbitration of Emperor Frederick III (who ultimately sided with the Order), the Poles declared war in February 1454. Though both sides expected a short series of raids and counter-raids, the war dragged on for thirteen years and ruined the Order both financially and structurally. By the time the Peace of Thorn was signed in 1466, the Order had agreed to cede Eastern Pomerania, release Prussia as a Polish fief, and accept the Polish king's suzerainty over the Grand Master himself. Whilst Poland was once again victorious and confirmed as a major power in Europe, the Order had been left weakened and humiliated - its conflicts with Poland were at an end, but so were its independence and prestige.Actions

Description
The Neumark ('New March') was the frontier territory between the Altmark ('Old March') and the previously pagan lands of the Slavs, which became known as the Ostmark ('Eastern March'). Settled by German colonists during the 13th and 14th centuries, the Neumark was initially conquered by the Ascanian margraves of Brandenburg, and subsequently ruled by the Wittelsbach and Luxemburg dynasties. The province had never been especially wealthy, the lack of infrastructure and major towns made it difficult to administer, and Polish settlers frequently encroached on the area. As a result, Brandenburg had pawned the Neumark to the Teutonic Order in 1402 as a means of securing their border with Poland, but the Order's failure to develop the land led to them offering to sell it back to Brandenburg by the 1450s.Actions

The most significant aspect of Halley's Comet is its regular return, which was predicted by Halley himself in 1705.
