Description
By the 15th century, the Malla dynasty had brought long-term stability to Nepal, having ruled various regional kingdoms since the early 1200s before unifying much of the country into a single realm during the long reign of the most successful Malla king, Jayayakshya (1428-1482). He had largely built on the work of his illustrious grandfather Jayasthiti (1382-1395), the first Malla king to conquer much of the Nepalese valley and introduce a codified system of laws. Jayayakshya, seeking even greater glory still, constructed the Pashupatinath Temple and fortified Nepal with a series of moats and palisades. Never lacking in ambition, he also raided south into the plains of Bihar and took vassalage of several local princes. Jayayakshya's dream, which failed to materialize following the partition of his kingdom after his death, was to lay claim to the southern border regions and establish Nepal as a serious rival to the powerful Bengal Sultanate.Actions

Action B of 3874 - Jayayakshya's Ambition for Nepal
Description
Though Nepal had been briefly unified under previous kings of the old Malla dynasty, it was not until the reign of the ambitious Hindu warlord Prithvi Narayan Shah (1768-1775) that the nation itself was finally - and permanently - forged through diplomacy and conquest. Shah spent years achieving his goal, a united Nepal he called 'Asal Hindustan' ('the Real Land of Hindus'), which he believed could represent a beacon of the Hindu religion and Nepali culture, and a viable counter to Muslim influence in the south. Shah believed that Nepal could - and should - dominate the region for the benefit of its people as they did not deserve to live under 'foreign' rulers like the Mughals and East India Company, whilst also acknowledging that a close relationship with China was essential to Nepal's independence. However, an alternative direction lay with the rising Sikh Empire of the Punjab, which Nepal could align with as a way of dominating the Ganges.Actions
