Description

Ludwig van Beethoven is commonly considered to have been the best composer of all time. His influence on an era in the history of music is unmatched by anyone before or after him. Rising from a background of Haydn's and Mozart's Classical trends, he embraced, in his works, the new humanist ideas visible in his contemporaries Goethe and Schiller's prose and poetry. Moreover, his art reflected the passionate concern for the dignity and freedom of human beings, a major part of the spirit of the French Revolution.
